When Anyone links go, so does Request files

The Request files button is gone, and the documents you need are stuck in email attachments again. SharePoint's Request files only works with Anyone links, the public links that open without signing in. In Microsoft's words: "Disabling Anyone links also disables Request files on SharePoint and OneDrive." And Microsoft's own Copilot setup guidance tells admins to disable or restrict those links.

How it works

  1. Step 1Connect SharePoint and pick the library or folder where uploads should go.
  2. Step 2Build the upload page: the documents you need, the questions to ask, your logo and colors.
  3. Step 3Send the link. Clients upload from any device, and each file lands in your folder, in a subfolder named from their answers.

BEYOND REQUEST FILES

What Request files can't do

Files still land in your SharePoint folder. File Request Pro adds what happens before and after the upload.

  • Outsiders never touch your SharePoint. They see your upload page, never the folder or the site, so there are no guest accounts to review and nobody to remove when the work is done.
  • Every file arrives labeled.Ask for a client number, a document type or a note next to each upload, so you're not matching files to emails afterwards.
  • Each person gets their own list.Send a request that names the documents you need from that client. Guided, step-by-step checklists come with Business and up.
  • You stop chasing.Reminders go out on your schedule, three days before the due date for example, and stop once everything is in. Anything still open after the due date shows as overdue.
  • Clients see your brand.Your logo and colors on the upload page. Custom CSS and your own domain come with Business and up.

  • No Anyone links and no guest accounts are created in your tenant.
  • File Request Pro connects with delegated access, using the Microsoft Graph permissions Files.ReadWrite and Sites.ReadWrite.All. On Microsoft's default tenant settings, users can't approve Sites.ReadWrite.All themselves, so an admin approves the app once.
  • Files pass through File Request Pro's storage on their way to SharePoint. On Business and Enterprise, Pipeline mode deletes our copy as soon as the file is in SharePoint.

PLANS

SharePoint is included on Pro ($79 a month) and up, and in the free trial. Business ($149 a month) adds Pipeline mode, guided checklists, your own domain and up to 5 users. OneDrive for work or school, Google Drive and Dropbox are on every plan.

Questions about SharePoint file requests

Do the people uploading need a Microsoft account?

No. They open your link and upload.

Do we have to turn Anyone links back on?

No. File Request Pro doesn't use them.

Can uploaders see what's in our SharePoint?

No. They only see their own upload page.

Will IT need to approve it?

Usually, yes, once. Microsoft's default settings don't let users approve SharePoint access themselves, so an admin approves File Request Pro one time.

Where are the files stored?

In the SharePoint folder you choose. On the way, they pass through File Request Pro's storage; on Business and Enterprise, Pipeline mode deletes that copy once the file is in SharePoint.

Does it work with OneDrive, Google Drive or Dropbox too?

Yes. The same upload page can save to any of them, and all three are on every plan.
